MOUNTAIN BIKING: Durant Nature Park

← NC NAHUNTA SWAMP SHINE NC Single Tracks →

Description

An abandoned Boy Scout camp provides a nice escape to the woods nestled in between neighborhoods and warehouses in north Raleigh. Lots of trails for hiking, but only 1.5 miles allow bikes. Most of the MTB trail is fast, wide doubletrack, with a few sections of slightly steeper and rooty singletrack mixed in. There are a couple of nice lakes in the middle of the park and sections of the trail border both of them. Nothin fancy or technical here, but if you live nearby, its a great place to ride to on the greenway w/out having to mess with the bike rack on the car. BONUS: numerous wildlife encounters here while riding.

Directions

From Raleigh, follow Capital Blvd (US 1) N to Durant Rd. Turn L on Durant and look for the northern entrance to the park on the left after crossing RR tracks. From points West, follow I-540 to Capital Blvd. and use above directions. The Durant Trails Greenway (paved) also leads to the access road for the nature park's north entrance.
